li socl2 batteries
Lithium Thionyl Chloride (Li-SOCl₂) batteries are high-performance
primary lithium batteries designed for long-term, low-maintenance power applications.
Using a metallic lithium anode and a liquid thionyl chloride (SOCl₂) cathode,
these batteries deliver a high nominal voltage of 3.6V, ultra-low self-discharge,
and exceptionally high energy density.
Li-SOCl₂ batteries are typically cylindrical lithium batteries, available from
1/2AA to D size, and manufactured in two main constructions to meet different load requirements:
- Bobbin-type Li-SOCl₂ batteries – optimized for ultra-low current and long service life
- Spiral-type Li-SOCl₂ batteries – designed for higher pulse current and power applications
Key Advantages of Li-SOCl₂ Batteries
- Highest voltage and energy density among primary lithium batteries
- Extremely low self-discharge rate, ideal for long-term storage
- Service life and shelf life up to 10–20 years
- Wide operating temperature range for harsh environments
- Stable voltage output over extended discharge periods
Applications for Smart Meters, IoT, and Industrial Equipment
Thanks to their reliability and long lifespan, lithium thionyl chloride batteries
are widely used in smart meters, IoT devices, and industrial battery applications,
especially where battery replacement is difficult or costly.
- Electric, water, gas, and heat smart meters
- IoT batteries for remote sensors and wireless monitoring devices
- AMR / AMI metering systems
- Industrial controllers, PLCs, and memory backup for ICs
- Alarm systems, tracking devices, and critical industrial electronics
Li-SOCl₂ batteries are the preferred choice for industrial lithium battery applications
that demand long life, high reliability, and consistent performance over many years of operation.
